Water Levels

Water levels typically follow rainfall patterns during periods of wet weather and drought. From these data, one can get a picture of how recent flood or drought events compare to historical data. Learn more about lake water levels »

    Bathymetric Maps and Depth Information

These are the latest available contour maps of the lake's bottom. These maps can be used to determine where "holes" (deep spots) exist on the lake bottom. Such areas are often productive for fishing. Learn more about bathymetric maps »

      Additional Hydrology and Geology Information

The Lake Region Classification System is a tool used for grouping lakes based on similarities in physiography, geology, soils, hydrology, water chemistry, vegetation, and climate. It was created from a cooperative effort involving the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and researchers at the University of Florida's Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences. There are a total of 47 Lake Region groups. These are used to provide a framework of the different types of lakes in the state so that management plans can be developed for groups of lakes with similar characteristics. The lake region this lake is located in is:

      Clermont Uplands (Region 7519)

This is a region of prairies, swamps, solution lakes, and low to high sand hills covered by citrus groves. Lakes of this region are acidic, soft-water lakes of low mineral content that are oligotrophic to slightly mesotrophic. Some lakes have low color and high Secchi depths while others are very dark. Of the larger lakes in this region, the ones that receive drainage from the Green Swamp are dark water, and with distance to the north they tend to lighten.
