Mayor Teresa Jacobs and the Board of County Commissioners will pronounce September 21 - 27, 2015 as Pollution Prevention (P2) Week in Orange County. The Proclamation will be read during the Orange County Board of County Commissioners meeting, Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at 9 a.m. The Board meeting is held on the 1st floor of the Orange County Administration Building located at 201 S. Rosalind Avenue, Orlando.

Pollution Prevention is the reduction, elimination and prevention of pollution at the source. P2 practices enable businesses and residents to protect the environment through money-saving alternatives. The local economy is strengthened, human and wildlife well-being is improved and the commitments to our community are reinforced.

On Saturday, September 26, 2015, Orange County will participate in National Public Lands Day, the nation’s largest hands-on volunteer effort. The event will educate citizens on the value of the environment and the importance of pollution prevention. Events will be held at two Orange County Green PLACE properties: Johns Lake Conservation Area located at 880 Avalon Road, Winter Garden and Pine Lily Preserve located at 1401 S County Road 13, Orlando from 8 a.m. to noon. Volunteers at Johns Lake will engage in land enhancement activities and participants at Pine Lily will enjoy a guided hike focused on nature photography and appreciation of the natural environment. Businesses and residents can also commemorate P2 by taking action in their offices, homes and communities to reduce waste, properly dispose of hazardous waste, and reduce energy and water use. Business and multifamily housing complexes are eligible to receive a free P2 assessment.
